Isn't That Odd
05:59
|
|||
Lyric by Eli Wallis
ISN'T THAT ODD
As the drugs hit you
the buss arrives
there's a girl with a crow on her arm
standing inside
and you think you wanna marry her
now isn't that odd?
yea, that's pretty odd
yea, that's pretty odd
broken bones of a Volvo
in the middle of 43rd
still there you are so cold and bright
in the October sunlight
as the news hits you
you think of his songs
strings strung between your hearts
and now he's gone
now isn't that odd?
now isn't that odd!
isn't that odd?
isn't that odd!

Dig Me Up
04:38
|
|||
Lyrics by Eli Wallis
DIG ME UP
officer, please dig me up
that's not my leg, that's not my scar
officer, there's been some mistake
that's not my leg
what would Theodore think?
pacing his cage
spent the day picking apples
does she think that's okay?
that's okay
I can't condone
but he's right, you know
they won't televise it
I've tried, I've asked not that anyone pays me much attention, anymore
savages, they called them
savages in the sand
we've relayed our regret
for unintentional loss
officer, please dig me up, please dig me up
that's not my leg, that's not my cause
please dig me up
please dig me up

Shallow Sand
05:59
|
|||
Lyrics by Eli Wallis.
SHALLOW SAND
Three combatants in a ring pit of sand
exposed to rain
by its tree-ring growing thin.
Red elephant purple seal
a yellow digging machine
in a ring of shallow sand.
There were too diggers here once perhaps the elephant too
certainly a few more trees.
A few Halloweens ago
I traded my car for an ounce of magic mushrooms.
But laws and symbols do not mean much when you are a bear.
We are horny, we rush hunger.
Was Joan of Arch twenty two or was only nineteen?
Silverfish have stolen the knowledge of man
crept into his texts without permission.
Cezanne takes you down to his place by the river
and he paints you
Pears and apples that come all the way from paris.
You're reading Katka and you don't see the cherry
about to drop to the open page.
The Order of Canada
goes to Shidane Arone.
god, they shot a gorilla
Yes it's raining here as well
and yet smoking on the phone?
The first generation of Shallow Sand.

Broken Clock
06:38
|
|||
Lyrics by Eli Wallis.
BROKEN CLOCK
Poor broken Clock who reads ten to seven all the time,
right once a day
twice really
and yet no one pays attention.
Apples do not fall far from fathers
unless rooted in distant mountain orchards
roll roll rolling downhill to us.
Oranges do not leave groves
save to be consumed by juicing machines
or cargo ships
their holidays eroding banks.
Poor freelance police doing their job
so controversial yet brave THANK GOD
someomeone has stepped up to the plate at last.
Poor old me stuck in ways
unwilling to see the barb of my wounds
the words of my barbs,
why don't they just listen?

Riding Away
06:53
|
|||
poem lyrics by Eli Wallis
RIDING AWAY
beautiful lady riding
a bike without her helmet
on the front a white basket
a shimmer of vibraphone
wafting with a warm breeze out
the open patio door
distant tides of highway noise
split by the train's bright aubade
closer to your ears than mine
the way the wind picks up your
voices reed like lilting cross
flying floating fabrics the
collected crumbs bits of fluff
dust found floating in the air
denoting the sticky side
of fabrics so silken soft
as in a morning sunrise
lilting floating voice like cross
tides of lawns more moss than grass
singing through the storm distant
train ringing through memory
wafting on a shimmering
breeze blowing cold from the north
stirring sweetly dreaming seas
beautiful lady riding
the wave with her eyes lightly
unbothered by its swelling

A Storm By The Ports
04:27
|
|||
Lyrics by Eli Wallis
A STORM BY THE PORTS
Imagine Alabama
a rectangle if you will
not really some sort of growth
at its bottom left(my rights!)
south shore reaching for broken shrimp boats sleeping
under the Gulf of Mexico
two tiny legs
far too tiny for such a shaped body
sort of rectangular
rhomboid, rhomboidian, rhomboidesque
perhaps a bit too forward
no centre of gravity
to be found in the comfort of a storm
by the ports
on the balls of poor feet aching
knotted cords
washed up
aftermath morning shores

Windy Excursions
04:46
|
|||
Lyrics by Eli Wallis
WINDY EXCURSIONS
we could fly west of here you know
quantity to me
us drifting on a westerly windy excursion
blowing over clam water oceans
still only at their surface
celestial bodies in transit settling
setting inevitable dishes
spaghetti a la new world
half-portion of cup ramen
perhaps bannock sashimi
plated so elegantly
on a mother's old china
in our old west
our Japan

Thank You
05:35
|
|||
Lyrics by Eli Wallis;
THANK YOU
thank you dar
all
that needs to be said
thank you moon and stars
for spending your nights with me
I will never forget the manner of your knowing grace
the way you move
so quietly
almost silently
